Alford School Unit

Client: Lincolnshire County Council

Project Coordinator: Mouchel Business Services

Project Duration: 5 Days

Value: £33,000

Type of Contract: Refurbishment

Organisational Role: Main Contractor

Alford school required additional classroom space due to an increase in the intake for the school year.  The additional room was required quickly and at minimal cost.

On this occasion we were aware that our clients ‘Mouchel’ were removing a modular building from  Ludford Primary School and storing it at great cost. The Gelder Group suggested that with modifications this unit could be used at Alford Primary School, which would negate the storage costs and save the client sourcing another unit.

The installation of the new classroom would have to be done via the school sports field. The staff at the school were concerned that this was going to damage the field rendering it unusable for the new term.

Pat Richmond, Demountable Building Manager said "Often we have a client worried about the impact the actual works will have on their everyday operations. On this contract the position of the classroom was some 80 meters across the school playing field. However, with our dedicated team, the transport of the building was carried out with no damage whatsoever to the surrounding area. This is something which we, at the Gelder Group, take great pride in'.

Refurbishment of the new building was carried out on site due to the time constraints and the keys were handed over to the school in advance of the new term.

Safety for all involved was the top priority.
