Subsidence damage - Sheffield

Client: GAB Robins

Consultant: GAB Robins

Value: £18,950

Type of Contract: Traditional

Project duration: 12 weeks

The works required to the boundary wall of the property caused by pressure from raised ground conditions on the neighbouring property which had collapsed in places and was leaning dangerously towards the policy holder's property.

The objective was to take down the existing rubble stone wall and save the stone for re-use and to rebuild the wall in stages due to the nature of the construction of the existing wall.

The wall was to be rebuilt forming a reinforced concrete retaining block wall to the neighbouring side and rebuild the face of the wall in the saved stone which was a random stone wall construction and time consuming to construct.

The works involved protecting the customer's garden area to minimise damage during the storage of the retained stone and during the construction of the new wall structure, the building team also had to contend with restricted access to the work area which was via a number of steps leading to the garden area.

Once completed this has given the policy holder a new retaining wall structure which is of a sound safe construction to retain the raised ground conditions on the neighbouring property and a structure which has enhanced his garden in appearance as well.
