Cherry Willingham Community School
Client: Mouchel Business Services
Loss Adjuster: Crawford & Co.
Value: £ 200 k
Type of Contract: Emergency Works & Temporary Infrastructure & Classroom Accommodation
Initially, the project involved the mobilisation of emergency teams to make safe and secure the structure following a major fire to the schools main block.
Emergency teams arrived at the scheme within 45 minutes and, within the space of 6 hours working into the night, the building and immediate area was made secure.
Over a further 48 hours, again working into the night, the building was boarded and made safe with temporary lighting and security alarms fitted to allow inspection by all relevant bodies.
With the initial building secure, our attention then had to be on the clients initial concerns namely, classrooms for pupils.
Also careful consideration had to be given with regards to the infrastructure of the school in respect of the car parking, washroom facilities and the foot traffic flow to and from the school that had to be changed due to the fire. A large option of the school had been fenced off.
Within 24 hours of being authorised, a temporary classroom scheme was agreed following consultation with the school.
Over a 3 day period substructure foundations were laid and temporary classrooms were installed. Due to our quick response, this resulted in only 4 days teaching being lost to only 2 forms.
Further works were then finished to complete the temporary infrastructure of the school including a car park and toilet facilities.
"I could not commend Gelders enough for the quick and efficient service they provided during this extremely pressurised time. They provided me with constant feedback reports and they were very responsive to all my requests.
I would certainly recommend Gelders within Mouchel and am very happy to continue using them on a daily basis".

“Cherry Willingham Community School suffered considerable damage following a fire on Friday 23rdApril. The school’s first floor of the main building was severely fire damaged and the ground floor was water damaged. As a Premises Adviser for the school I liaised with Paul Massam/Pat Richmond from Gelders who were on site within 30 minutes of my phone call.
As soon as the Fire Brigade had sanctioned access into the premises for structural engineers/Gelders contractors, the remedial works began. Gelders manpower were ready to start work immediately. They took instructions from myself also offering valuable advice, this included building security, checking asbestos registers, removal of necessary asbestos materials/debris, checking electrics, making the building safe and ready for remodelling works to commence.
Gelders worked day and night, weekends/Bank holidays, some of their works included installing temporary double mobile classrooms, toilets, septic tanks and car parking facilities. Gelders worked within the strictest of timescales in order to ensure the school could function and the childrens’ education did not suffer.
I could not commend Gelders enough for the quick and efficient service they provided during this extremely pressurised time. They provided me with constant feedback reports and they were very responsive to all my requests.
I would certainly recommend Gelders within Mouchel and am very happy to continue using them on a daily basis”.
