New Church Hall Holy Souls R.C. Church, Scunthorpe
Client: Diocese of Nottingham
Type of Contract: Traditional
Project Duration: 18 Weeks
Value: £250,000
Status: Completed
At the end of 2010 we completed works to a new church hall at Holy Souls Roman Catholic Church in Scunthorpe.
The £0.5m project consisted of a new church hall and car park to the existing church. As the new hall was linked directly to the church, it was evident from our early meetings with Father Owen and his congregation, that noise would be the biggest problem to resolve during the build process.
Father Ford and our Site Manager, Simon Hinton, had regular meetings throughout the project to discuss times of funerals, christenings and weddings, there were also daily services at 9.00a.m. each day. During these services we ceased carrying out any noisy activity and during sensitive services our staff stopped working and took early or late breaks.
The main link between the church into the newly formed hall was achieved by breaking through large new openings through the existing 15m high church tower. A temporary support system had to be designed and calculated with the consultant engineer and carefully planned prior to works taking place to ensure the structural integrity of the building whilst new supporting steelwork were put in place
