The site was on a busy main road into the city of Lincoln, surrounded by student accommodation, residential housing and small/medium size businesses and close to The University of Lincoln.

The works involved the demolition of the old ‘Fosse Bank Service Station’ which was also utilised as a car wash and valeting service. Due to the nature of the site usage the existing ground was heavily contaminated and had a number of underground diesel and oil storage tanks that required removal. Following ground investigations from our specialist environmental consultants we were able to identify the best possible way of dealing with and removing the hazards from site.

The superstructure walls were a cavity wall construction made up of 140mm thick block work inner leaf, 100mm insulated cavity, 102mm facing brick outer leaf built around a structural steel frame, the roof was a shallow pitch covered with insulated composite profile sheets including powder coated cladding, trims, capping’s, fascia’s and rain water goods to match. There were feature rendered panels to the front and right hand side elevations finished in a colour to match that of the fascia’s, the glazed shop front and automated door were pre-finished aluminium framing with safety glazing.
