June floods bring in several million pounds of new work

The Gelder Group?s Insurance, Repair & Renovation Division has benefited from the record rainfall in June. Whilst other divisions of the Gelder Group struggle with progress due to the appalling weather conditions, the Insurance Team received over ?3 million work of claims in the 14 days following the heaviest rainfall on Monday 25th June 2007.

By 3rd July the Gelder Group?s Insurance, Repair & Renovation Division was so busy that it was forced to turn off the majority of its trading areas from receiving new insurance claims from its many clients. North Midlands Divisional Manager, Mick Millership, commented that ?to turn off the majority of our trading area was not a decision we took lightly. The sheer volume of new claims however, left us unable to cope so we made the decision to reduce the trading areas down to the post codes surrounding both out East Midlands and North Midlands offices (two of the hardest hit by the recent floods) where we could work most efficiently.

East Midlands Insurance, Repair & Renovations Divisional Manager, Paul Massam, commented that ?at present we are recruiting new staff and reallocating as many resources as possible from other areas of the business in the hope that we can offer a normal service to insurers as soon as possible. When you receive the equivalent of six months work in the space of a few days however, it does, and is, taking some managing. We are however, making good progress and have already dealt with an incredible amount of work in the space of just a few days.?
