Birchwood Shopping Centre Re-development Progressing Well

The Lincolnshire Co-operative redevelopment of the Birchwood Shopping Centre is progressing well as we are now entering the beginning of the 2nd year of this project.

Phase 2 commenced in September 2009 with the disconnection and diversions of existing utilities and the demolition of the existing single story retail units.

The erection of the steel frame adjacent to Martin McColl’s Newsagents has recently been completed, this will comprise of four ground floor retail units and seven residential flats to the first floor.

Phase 1 which was completed in September 2009, was mainly new and refurbished units, to provide new premises for existing tenants.

Currently being constructed are both floors to the Northern Block and foundations to the Western Block. During February the superstructure to the Northern Block and erection of the Western Block steelwork will commence the construction of ten ground floor retail units and eighteen first floor flats, both blocks will include the architectural colonnades as featured on Phase 1.  The existing Western Block, housing LincVet, Bett Fred, the Chip Shop and others, will be developed with a new feature gable and glazed canopies to match the Co-op façade .

The project is due for completion in December 2010.
