Group Attend Activity Morning at Witham St Hughs School

On 21st October 2008 representatives from the Group attended Witham St Hughs School as part of the school?s business orientated activities, activity week

Major Contracts Director, Kevin Manterfield, Project Manager, Alan Smith and Group Training manager Mike Johnson visited year 5 and 6 pupils and their presentation and activities formed part of a day which was based around the construction industry. Both Kevin and Alan managed the new school build, which was completed in July 2006

The children learned how their school was designed and how it was put together.  Group Training Manager, Mike explained to the pupils about health and safety on building sites and introduced them to personal protective equipment.  Kevin Manterfield showed the pupils how the school had been designed as an eco-friendly school and showed them examples of the materials used.  Alan Smith explained to the pupils what it was like as a Project Manager for the project including day to day life on site.

Everyone in the class was given a Gelder Group Hi-Visibility Vest and a promotional pack, which they all seemed extremely delighted with, in particular the pencil sharpeners and yo-yo?s.

At the end of the morning the children took part in a question and answer round and were asked to design a house utilising what they had learnt during the course of the morning.  A competition was ran over the next few weeks to design a 3-4 bedroom house that was eco-friendly and uses recyclable and sustainable products.  The competition was judged by Technical Manager Matthew Carter.
