'Best Large Employer to Work For' Award
On the 26th February 2009 the Gelder Group were delighted to be presented with the ?Large Employer of the Year Award?, at the Lincolnshire and Rutland Work Based Learning Awards.
The Group received this award under the apprenticeship category and it represents the Group?s commitment to its highly successful apprenticeship scheme.
The recent ?500k investment into a new Training Academy and a fresh intake of apprentices in 2008 shows the Group?s continued support towards training and personal development.
Managing Director Steve Gelder, who received the award from Carol Chambers, Director of Children and Young People Services, commented ?The Gelder Group started life in 1988 with two bricklayers and one apprentice. When we started out we were committed to training, 21 years later we have annual sales of ?30m, a workforce of 280 and we are still just as committed to training now, as we were then. Interestingly, our first apprentice still works for us, as does his wife and many other tradesmen that we have trained over the years?.
Training Manager, Mike Johnson who heads the Group?s Training Academy stated ?training and supporting young people has been key to the success of the business, even in such uncertain times like this recession we have not held back on any training in fact with the development of our River Cottage Training Academy we are doing more training than ever, and I know this will be a wise investment.?
