Record Sales in Spite of Downturn

A strong performance by the Gelder Group?s Insurance and Maintenance Divisions helped the Group to report record sales of ?14.4m for the six month period ending 30th June 2009, up 1% on corresponding 6 month period in 2008.

Combined sales of the Groups insurance, repair, renovation & maintenance divisions were up 1.8% to ?5.7m whilst sales in the Group?s contracting arm remained static at ?8.7m. No house sales came through in either the first 6 months of 2008 or 2009 as the company continued to restrict its exposure to the house building sector ? its most profitable division a mere 4 years ago.

Managing Director Steve Gelder (pictured) commented that ?Despite being the slowest increase in sales for over 10 years, it is a fantastic achievement, few building companies will get anywhere near maintaining sales in this market, let alone increase them? adding ?Everyone at the company should feel very proud, the trick now is to maintain this level of activity for the remainder of the year?

The Gelder Group?s reported jump in sales comes on the back of ?4m of new orders being secured (see news story 8th June) During the 6 week period up to 8th July, the first time in 5 months that the company?s forward order book has outshone sales.
