New Delivery Vehicle

This September marks the first full year of operation for our new delivery vehicle. The 18 tonne Volvo FL lorry which replaced an ageing 14 tonne Volvo last year. In this time, the new lorry has clocked up 24,000 miles, 7,000 miles less than its predecessor did in the comparable time period.

Richard Woodcock, Driver explained he felt this had been due to the increased load space and carrying capacity, meaning the lorry has to perform fewer journeys to accomplish the same amount of work.

David Leak, Fleet Manager commented, 'This is great news as we were initially nervous about such a large investment. However, working together with Richard to design and build a bespoke lorry that meets the requirements of the Gelder Group has paid off, the new lorries reduction in mileage has saved us approximately ?3,000 on Diesel, and more saving will become apparent in the future as a result of this increased resource efficiency'.

James Hill, Environmental Officer, commented,' Increasing resource efficiency should always be a primary concern for any business, regardless of the environmental benefits. But operating this larger lorry has, in fact used 3,100 litres of diesel less than the old one, doing the same amount, if not more work and saving about 8.4 tonnes of CO2 being emitted to the atmosphere'.
