BDMA Awards First Training Centre Licence

The BDMA has awarded the first licence to deliver official BDMA training to the Gelder Training Academy, part of the Gelder Group, in Lincoln.

This fulfills a commitment by the BDMA to provide access to officially sanctioned damage management training, in response to ongoing demand for pre-examination courses.

For many years the BDMA stood back from providing training, focusing on establishing its examination and accreditation programme as the industry standard for professional qualification.  As a certifying authority, the Association was not in a position to recommend training over which it had no sanction.

The introduction of the licensing programme now enables the BDMA to promote its Licensed Training Centres (LTCs) as a key element of the route to accreditation.

'The award of this first licence to the Gelder Training Academy, marks another milestone in the BDMA?s drive to promote professionalism in the industry,' says BDMA Co-ordinator, Bob Spencer.  'Gelder passed the stringent auditing process with flying colours and we believe they have a lot to offer damage management practitioners'.

Mike Johnson, Group Training Manager for the Gelder Group, said 'We are delighted to be recognised as the first BDMA Licensed Training Centre.  This is fantastic news and really does complement our recent investment of half a million pounds in our River Cottage Training Academy.  Being able to offer the BDMA Damage Management Course, with Laurence Mitchell of DSM Consultants as our appointed trainer, will add further value to the many other courses we can deliver to the damage management sector and the wider insurance industry'.

A number of LTC applications are currently being processed and the BDMA anticipates further licences will be awarded in the near future.

Official BDMA Damage Management Training is only available via Licensed Training Centres.  Organisations interested in applying for BDMA LTC status should email info@bdma.org.uk or visit the website at http://www.bdma.org.uk/.
