Works Progressing on Modular Building at Lincoln County Hospital

Works on a 56 bed modular building at Lincoln County Hospital are progressing well.  The foundation works have now been completed, which included pile foundations, reinforced ground beams and steel supported structure.

The pre-fabricated modules are now being transported to site and placed into position by crane where they will be bolted together.

The state of the art two-storey extension to the city?s hospital is said to be the future of NHS hospital buildings and has attracted substantial media coverage from the Lincolnshire Echo and BBC?s Look North.

Gelder Group?s Major Contracts Director said it was the largest modular building they had worked on ?An awful lot of work has gone into the preparatory stages, prior to the modular units being installed'.

This method of building is ideally suited to the NHS due to time considerations of a traditional build.  Minimising the time of the build process by using modular building significantly reduces any disruption caused to the day to day activities of the ?live? environment.

The Group will also being carrying out internal alterations and refurbishment of the paediatric ward which will incorporate specialist service modifications, along with the construction of a new playroom.

Completion dates for the ?6 million modular section and refurbishment will be the end of January 2010.
