Gelder Group’s Mechanic scoop Top Prize at Senior Charity Fishing Match
David Troop, vehicle mechanic based in Lincoln topped the scales with a combined catch of Ghost Carp, Mirror Carp, Rudd and Skimmer Bream on the 11thAugust at the Group’s 1stAnnual Charity Fishing Match, which took place on the Environmental Project Lake situated at Head Office, Sturton by Stow. A prize for the ‘Biggest Whopper’ of the day went to David Tennant from Stallard Kane with a fine Ghost carp weighing 4lb 7oz.
The junior prize went to young Jasmine Smith who netted a catch weighing 3lb 7oz on sweet corn tactics. Plenty of fish were caught on the Day both big and small to a variety of tactics. The juniors fishing particularly well, some with only limited experience. All juniors went away with a prize, a medal and a smile. Over a hundred pounds was raised for our nominated charities, St Barnabas and Alzheimer’s Society Charities which together with the Groups many other Charity activities will help towards making a real difference. Simon Blaydes the Environmental Officer and Match Organiser commented “It was an amazing day for both our charities and Anglers with a capacity attendance at the groups beautiful lake. The atmosphere was electric, fun with Heavy weights - Ian Elsey and Steve Gelder making the debut event highly competitive at times !’’
The Environmental Project was opened by HRH the Duke of Gloucester in 2010 and has recently been awarded the prestigious Green Apple Award. The Environmental project has a fully stocked lake, 3,800 native tree species, Rainwater harvester, Natural Lake Filtration system, over 1.5 miles of walkways, an Owl and Kestrel nesting tower, where both species have bred and fledged offspring successfully for the second year.
