Mike Johnson our Group Training Manager Awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours List 2013

Gelder Group’s Training Manager Mike Johnson has been awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours List for 2013 for services to Training and Skills.  Mike has been with the Gelder Group for nearly 5 years as Head of the Training Division and has achieved many awards including the National Training Award 2012 and personally winning the Linda Ammon Award 2012 which is presented to an inspirational individual who has made a huge impact within their organisation through training.  Mike and his team are responsible for providing construction training at HMP Lincoln which received an ‘Outstanding report’ in the recent OFSTED inspection of the Gelder Training Academy.

Mike is passionate about training and encouraging people into education at work, personally spearheading a commitment on behalf of the Gelder Group to ensure every person is trained to a minimum of NVQ LEVEL 2, the majority of our staff now has Level 3 accreditation or above. In addition to his work at the Gelder Group Mike sits on many committees and boards including The Lincolnshire and Rutland Skill Board, he is Chairman of Construction Skills East and West Midlands Skills for Growth forum and is an Apprenticeship Ambassador for the National Apprenticeship Service.

Mike commented “when I got the news I was speechless, I never in my wildest dreams expected this to happen to me, I am absolutely blown away.  To be recognised at this level in doing the job I love, is the best accolade you could get.
