BBC Look North interviews Gelder Group MD on Government spending review
Gelder Group MD Steve Gelder recently appeared on BBC Look North to discuss the governments October spending review and its effect on the construction industry with an expected 100,000 job losses across the industry.
During the interview Steve was pushed to discuss the effect on Gelder Group and possible job losses at the company but refused to be drawn on the subject, concentrating instead on the companies continued drive for growth, particularly in its maintenance and insurance repair and renovation divisions which are currently both well ahead of forecasted sales.
Commenting on the interview Steve says “the reporter wanted a headline disaster story but he wasn’t getting one, the fact is that although margins are extremely tight at present and there is a lot of gloom around we are actually enjoying record sales and no one actually knows what the full impact of the spending review will be on our industry’s” adding “the only thing we can be sure of is that many construction companies will be hit hard over the next couple of years, many will also fail but some will come through relatively unscathed, leaner and with more market share – I intend for Gelder Group to be part of the latter group”.
