Major Contracts project receives National Award

A recently completed project constructed by our Major Contracts Division has won a national award.

Parson’s Mount is an almhouse in Newark in Nottinghamshire designed by Guy Taylor Associates for St. Leonard’s Hospital. The project won the Social Housing Project of the year at the Timber in Construction Awards.

Our client required the development to be built to the code for Sustainable Homes Level 4. This was achieved making it the first almshouse in the country to do so.

Sustainable, responsibly sourced timber formed the backbone of the project and the structure was created using a twin-stud timber frame system designed to minimise thermal bridging and achieve extremely low u-values. Cedar boards were used as the primary cladding material giving the building a beautiful, natural aesthetic without great expense.

All units featured full disabled access and emergency warden call systems, as well as flexible living spaces which can be customised to suit the requirements of the individual occupants.

Project architect Chris Dawkins from Guy Taylor Associates said ‘that to win this award was brilliant for Guy Taylor and Gelder Ltd.
