March the 3rd to the 7th was National Apprenticeship Week and this year a number of the Gelder Groups apprentices took part in various events across the county assist the Training Department in promoting apprenticeships. One of many events was held at the Springfield’s Shopping Centre Spalding which attracted a large amount of interest from young people wanting to find out about apprenticeships in the construction industry.
On the Wednesday and Thursday over 300 pupils attended a two day event at the Cordeaux Academy in Louth where the Gelder Groups Apprentices and Cordeaux Academy Trainees supported staff in assisting pupils in Have–a-Go events, demonstrating different trade skills, from plastering to plumbing. Commenting Apprentice Rebecca Gillatt said “We mentored different school groups talking to them about what they want to do after they leave school, answering their questions about apprenticeships and the world of work. We also worked closely with a number of 1st and 2nd Year students who are looking for an apprenticeship in the construction industry”.
