November saw the new Retford Fire Station being handed over to the Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service after a 59 week successful build.  The station now boasts a much more modern feel with cost efficiency technology which eliminates two thirds of the original running costs compared to the Brigades previous home. The highly-efficient purpose-built fire station, with solar panels, ultra- efficient LED lighting, a state-of-the-art heating system and insulation stands proudly on the corner of Wharf Road adjacent to Retford Town Centre.  The station also has a modern Green Wave System alerting and changing all traffic systems to Green to allow for emergency vehicles to quicker and easier.

As well as housing its existing wholetime and retained crews, the station has become a new northern training hub for the whole of Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service, with an upgraded Road Traffic Collision training area and a brand new ‘firehouse’ for breathing apparatus, confined crawl space and sewer training.

In addition the station will become the northern hub for the Service’s vehicle maintenance function. Other features include three appliance bays, a gym, breathing apparatus area and a training and community room.
